Meat Puppets contribute to SPIN’s “Nevermind” Nirvana tribute album

July 20, 2011 Meatpuppets, News No Comments

For the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind, SPIN has curated a tribute album of unique and varying covers. Legendary rock trio Meat Puppets were invited to contribute an interpretation and chose to tackle the iconic “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
Listen to “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and the rest of the album on SPIN’s Facebok page.

Steve Kandell, SPIN’s editor-in-chief, tells NPR

“The most intriguing angle was getting bands like the Meat Puppets and the Vaselines, who were famously covered by Nirvana, to finally repay the favor, and with “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Lithium,” respectively, Nevermind’s two best-known songs, at that.”

The Meat Puppets continue to tour, including dates with Soundgarden and
Queens of the Stone Age supporting their 13th LP, Lollipop, out now on Megaforce Records.
